Tron: Ares, the third movie in the cult favorite sci-fi Tron series, arrives in theaters on October 10, a date that is actually closer than you think. We’re only a month and a couple of weeks away from the release, so Disney is getting audiences revved up with a new TV spot that shows clips that weren’t in the previously released trailers. Disney also wants you to remember that the movie will feature music by Nine Inch Nails.
The new TV spot centers around the mysterious Ares (played by Jared Leto), a warrior from the digital world of the Grid. As we learned in the trailer, Ares was created to be an unstoppable warrior, but it appears that he will go rogue at some point in the movie. The TV spot builds on that idea, with a character saying, “He came here from the digital world, looking for something, something you’ve discovered, and some of us will stop at nothing to get it.” Could Ares be seeking valuable information? Perhaps there is some revolutionary technological discovery that could shake the digital world if it falls into the wrong hands.
The TV spot uses the tagline, “The War for Our World Begins.” As we saw way back in the teaser, this movie’s main attraction is that the real world and the digital world will collide, unlike in the previous two movies, where the Grid was kept separate from our world. The TV spot also shows a new clip of Ares saying, “Your world is running out of time.” Could this mean that Ares is out to destroy our world, or that he is warning our world of a bigger threat than himself?
In addition, the TV spot makes sure to mention that the movie will feature new music by Nine Inch Nails twice. Tron: Legacy had amazing original music by Daft Punk, so let’s hope that Nine Inch Nails can properly capture the film’s cyberpunk atmosphere.
While he isn’t featured in the TV spot, Jeff Bridges will indeed be returning for Tron: Ares. Although his character, Kevin Flynn, was killed at the end of Tron: Legacy, Flynn’s son Sam recovered his information disc, teasing at a possible digital resurrection. In the digital world, anything is possible. You can retrieve deleted files, and you can rescue deleted souls.
