The Tennessee Vols had a tough weekend on the field, dropping two of three to the Arkansas Razorbacks, but UT earned a big off-the-field win on Monday by swiping a commit from an SEC rival.
2025 catcher Trent Grindlinger flipped his commitment from Mississippi State to Tennessee on Monday afternoon.
Grindlinger, 6-foot-3/200 lbs from Huntington Beach, CA, originally committed to Mississippi State on November 3, 2023.
It's not a huge surprise that Grindlinger backed off his commitment from Mississippi State considering that the Bulldogs fired head coach Chris Lemonis late last month.
Baseball America recently described Grindlinger as one of the top high school catchers in this year's draft class, noting that he has "above-average raw power and solid defensive skills behind the plate". They also pointed out that Grindlinger "has the tools to catch with solid actions behind the plate and an arm that’s shown plus in the past".
