It was the spring of 1997 and Dennis Rodman teamed up with Hulk Hogan. It wasn’t on the basketball court. No, it was in WCW, one of the hottest wrestling companies.
Rodman joined Hogan, who was known as Hollywood Hulk Hogan, in the disruptive group, New World Order, also known as nWo.
Rodman’s first match in the WCW was a tag team match. He and Hogan took on Lex Luger and The Giant. The match took place on WCW’s 1997 Bash at the Beach pay-per-view event. The Rodman-Hogan tandem lost the match.
Rodman appeared in four matches total. This includes one solo match against Macho Man Randy Savage, where he lost. His most famous match occurred in the summer of 1998 where he and Hogan took on fellow NBA player, Karl Malone, and wrestler, Diamond Dallas Page.
The Last Dance Documentary brought to light the time that Rodman left in the middle of the 1998 NBA Finals. He went between games to join Hogan on WCW’s Monday Nitro event. Luckily for the Chicago Bulls, it didn’t interfere with them winning their sixth NBA championship.
The wrestling matchup occurred on July 12th, 1998, where WCW had their huge pay-per-view special, 1998 Bash at the Beach. Rodman went by the name “Rodzilla” and together he and Hogan battled Malone and Page.
Once again Rodman and Hogan lost, but they certainly put on a show. As fans of wrestling remember Hulk Hogan, who recently passed away, basketball fans remember the time he teamed up with the colorful Dennis Rodman.
