Thomas Müller has had his first “oops” moment in MLS since joining the Vancouver Whitecaps last month. And it came in the most hilarious way, by revealing a teammate’s international future.
It wasn’t Jesse Marsch, John Herdman or even Mauricio Pochettino who broke the news about Tristan Blackmon’s international future — it was Müller himself.
In one of the biggest bombshells of the week, the Bayern Munich legend turned Whitecaps forward accidentally revealed that his teammate Tristan Blackmon has been called up to the US men’s national team (USMNT) , before any official announcement.
After Vancouver’s 3–2 win over St. Louis City, Müller was talking about the squad’s absences during the international window when he casually said: “Tristan now is nominated for the USA…”
The room went silent. Müller’s eyes went wide as he realized what he had just said. He playfully tried to “slurp” the words back into the microphone before laughing:
“If he plays good today… Yeah, in the end it is what it is. I heard what I heard, congrats USA.”

Jesse Marsch had been talking with Vancouver Whitecaps CB Tristan Blackmon about potentially playing for #CanMNT.
The U.S. didn’t like that.

The room erupted in laughter but the slip confirmed what had only been speculation: Blackmon is indeed playing for the USMNT.
Blackmon had been weighing his options for months with Canada even exploring a special citizenship route to bring him into Jesse Marsch ’s setup. But once the US call-up came the decision was clear.
It’s a win for the US, a versatile defender who can play centrally or on the right for Mauricio Pochettino. For Team Canada, it’s a miss.
