On Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma City, the top two seeds in the 2025 Big 12 Softball Tournament clashed in the Championship Game.

In a heated battle, Gerry Glasco and the Texas Tech Red Raiders squared off against Caitlin Lowe and the Arizona Wildcats. Pitching was the headliner for the game as NiJaree Canady, Ryan Maddox, and Miranda Stoddard allowed just six hits total!

With that, here are the top three takeaways from Texas Tech’s 4-0 win over the Wildcats.

NIJAREE DOMINATES

A tale as old as time, one of the best pitchers in softball made her mark in the biggest game of the season, so far.

Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady was absolutely dominant in the circle, surrendering just two hits to Arizona on the day. Canady struck out eight Wildcat batters over seven innings, giving Caitlin Lowe’s squad an overall batting average of .091 (2-22).

With the outing, Canady earned her 26th win of the year as the Red Raiders’ star arm now holds an overall record of 26-5.

THE NUMBERS

While Canady’s dominant pitching can be seen in multiple areas across the box score, three specific stats sealed the deal for Texas Tech.

Those three categories include overall hitting, two-out RBIs, and hitting with runners in scoring position. In terms of overall hitting, Arizona recorded just two hits on the day. Texas Tech, while significantly better, didn’t completely outpace the Wildcats but found timely hits in clutch situations. The Red Raiders went 4-22 on the day, good for an overall batting average of .182.

With runners in scoring position, the Wildcats went 0-3, while Texas Tech went 3-7 (.429). In addition to the key shutout, Arizona failed to record any two-out RBIs, while Texas Tech snagged three.

BIG 12 CHAMPS

Texas Tech’s historic season added another impressive win to the checklist, earning the first Big 12 Softball Tournament title in program history.

The Red Raiders took a massive step forward in 2025, following a disappointing season one year prior. In 2024, Craig Snider’s squad finished 8-16 in league play with an overall record of 29-21. In the first year of the Gerry Glasco era in Lubbock, the Red Raiders cemented themselves as one of the best units in America.
