Thunder Waive TyTy Washington Jr
Erik Williams-USA TODAY Sports

The Thunder have waived point guard TyTy Washington Jr., the team announced in a press release.

Washington, 21, is 6-foot-3 and was acquired in a trade with the Hawks on July 12 in a deal that sent guard Patty Mills to Atlanta. Four days before that, Washington was sent to the Hawks as part of a five-team trade.

The No. 29 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, Washington spent his rookie season with the Rockets, appearing in 31 games and averaging 4.7 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, shooting 36 percent from the field.

He played one season at Kentucky before entering the draft. He was a last-minute addition to Oklahoma City’s roster in the NBA Summer League, but appears to have been a victim of a numbers crunch.

Washington will become an unrestricted free agent on Sunday should he clear waivers.
