The Detroit Tigers (77–53) have picked it up in the second half, currently riding a four-game winning streak that has pushed their division lead back to double digits (10.5 games) entering Saturday.
A huge reason for the team’s recent success as they heat up heading into back-to-back postseason appearances has been Riley Greene returning to his first-half form.
Over the past two weeks (13 games), the 24-year-old outfielder has posted a .214 batting average, .358 on-base percentage, .930 OPS, four home runs, and ten RBIs.
The Tigers’ offense has seemingly become reliant on Greene’s production, with his bat often determining if the team breaks through offensively.
During Friday’s 7–5 win against the Kansas City Royals, Greene launched a game-tying two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth inning—his 30th home run of the season.
On Saturday, the Tigers announced he had etched his name into the franchise record books, joining Prince Fielder and Norm Cash.
The team wrote, “Riley Greene is the first Tigers left-handed hitter to reach 30 homers in a season since Prince Fielder in 2012. He also joins Norm Cash (1961 and 1962) as the only left-handed hitters in franchise history to reach 30 homers prior to the start of September”.

With Detroit poised for another postseason berth and looking like a legitimate contender, Greene will continue to be at the center of their success. In 2025, he earned his second consecutive All-Star selection, and at just 24 years old, there’s still plenty of time for him to unlock greater potential and continue improving.
Greene is also locked into the Tigers’ long-term plans, as he doesn’t become an unrestricted free agent until after the 2028 season. He’s been part of the organization since being selected with their first-round pick in the 2019 MLB Draft.
