David Ornstein confirms Tottenham Hotspur interest in Maghnes Akliouche

Having missed out on their most preferred targets for the attacking midfield position, including Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, Tottenham Hotspur are still engaged in several operations to bring in a new forward for Thomas Frank in this late stage of the summer transfer window.

The way they missed out on Eze was particularly problematic for Spurs, and this failure to land the now Arsenal forward can have significant implications for the Lilywhites. To mitigate the impact of this failure, the North London side is now working to add another forward to their team before the transfer window closes.

In recent days, one of the player with whom they have been linked for this position is the AS Monaco starlet Maghnes Akliouche. Although he does not have any experience playing in the Premier League, the Frenchman would still be quite a good addition to the Tottenham team as he has performed at a very high level in France for the last few years.

David Ornstein speaks highly of Maghnes Akliouche

In fact, the journalist David Ornstein, talking to The Athletic FC Podcast, spoke very highly of the youngster as he confirmed him to be among the options being considered by the North London side to further strengthen their attack.

Talking about Akliouche, the journalist said:

“They [Tottenham] do have other options, and from what we hear, I don’t know exact names, but some of those are pretty ambitious. We’ve heard about Savinho. There will be other players too – reports of Akliouche of Monaco. If they pursued a deal for somebody like him – I speak to a lot of people in football who think he’s going to be one of the best attacking midfielders around and has outrageous potential.”

With James Maddison out due to the serious injury he suffered during the preseason, Thomas Frank has started with two markedly different midfield setups in his first two Premier League games with Spurs. In the match against Burnley, he started Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, and Pape Matar Sarr, while against Manchester City, he started with Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Sarr.

Thus, it is clear that Frank is not shy to give youngsters chances against weaker teams, and if Akliouche made the jump to Spurs, he would get plenty of opportunities to play. Furthermore, he would also get to play in the UEFA Champions League.

Some recent reports suggest that getting him from Monaco would not be too difficult for Tottenham, but with only a few days left in the market, it remains to be seen whether the Lilywhites will be able to land him this summer.
