Michael Porter Jr. has his eyes on All-Star status as he begins his Brooklyn Nets journey, but Trae Young has some thoughts on that.

Michael Porter Jr. enters a new chapter of his career next season. After a successful stint with the Denver Nuggets, he now finds himself on a new team.

The Nuggets traded Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets, as they looked to bring in Cam Johnson to their team and compete for a championship again.

Porter Jr. has embraced the Nets’ hard-working culture, as he looks to become their next franchise star during their rebuilding phase.

And as it turns out, Porter Jr. is looking to earn himself an All-Star nomination next season. But how does Trae Young expect him to fare?

Trae Young says Michael Porter Jr. will average 25 points next season

Michael Porter Jr. and Trae Young were spotted training together during the offseason. As both stars prepare for the upcoming NBA grind, they had bold predictions for each other.

MPJ noted how, like Trae Young, he is trying to become an All-Star next season. Young immediately responded by saying Porter Jr. would average more than 25 points per game next season.

Michael Porter Jr.: “He’s trying to get back to the All-Star game. I’m trying to be[a] first-time All-Star. We’re trying to get better today.”

Trae Young: “You’re averaging 25+ this year. Come on, man, 25… 25+. Easy.”

Porter Jr. will presumably be the primary ball handler next season, especially given the Nets’ contract talks with Cam Thomas stalling and the subsequent doubt about his future with the team.

Brooklyn Nets need MPJ’s championship leadership to reshape culture

Michael Porter Jr. brings some much-needed championship pedigree to the Brooklyn Nets. As the franchise builds around a new young core of rookies, Porter Jr. will be the veteran leader.

Porter Jr. expects to play a Jokic-like role in Brooklyn, although his passing arsenal is far removed from his former Serbian teammate’s.

Jordi Fernandez will rely on Porter Jr. to set the culture for the young rookies on his squad. With the Nets looking to embrace a new direction, MPJ becomes vital to their plans.

While his off-court comments can bring the wrong kind of attention to the team, Porter Jr. is a solid young basketball player on his day, with the kind of championship experience that is so valuable in the modern NBA.
