Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce knows his way around an offensive playbook, having played in the NFL for 13 years, he knows what he's talking about.
With the NFL Draft coming down the pipeline, one of the best prospects in the class is Colorado Buffalo Travis Hunter. Equally adept at playing receiver as he is at corner, Hunter looms as a true two-way player in the NFL.
But for Kelce, he thinks Hunter might be better served playing mostly defense when he begins his NFL career.
“I think he’s proven that he needs to play on both sides of the ball,” Kelce said on the New Heights podcast. “I think it’s easier for him to be on the field all the time as a defensive player. And then, offensively, coming in on certain plays.”
That is one way to look at it, and now Hunter has given his thoughts on what position he could play in the NFL.
“I have to prove that I can do it," Hunter said on The Travis Hunter Show. "So that’s my main thing. I’mma prove that I’m gonna do it, and I can do it. He’s not telling no lie. I still got to prove it.”
Later in the video, he reiterated, “He’s not sugar-coating it, and that’s exactly what I’m gonna do.”
Hunter will be an interesting prospect for NFL teams to draft, given that he can play both sides of the ball. However, the general consensus is that he might have to choose one side to play on.
Either way, Hunter looms as one of the best prospects in the draft and it will be fascinating to see how he is deployed by his team.
Of course, it won't all be smooth sailing, as rookies often have dips in their form and production, but Hunter will be one of the most-watched players in 2025.
Can he play both sides? Hunter seems intent on doing it, and we wait to see if his new team will let him play a significant number of snaps in his first NFL season.
