A brutal injury to Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton had the entire world gasping on Sunday night. Including Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes.
After Haliburton left the floor in the first quarter, the Kansas City star chimed in on Twitter. Haliburton appeared to tweak something in his lower leg, quickly hitting the deck and pounding the floor, much to the chagrin of onlookers everywhere.
“No way man….” Mahomes tweeted. “Prayers up man…“
The injury occurred innocuously enough. During an Indiana offensive possession the ball was kicked around the perimeter, when it landed with Tyrese Haliburton late in the shot clock.
He appeared to make a move toward the lane, taking one dribble before collapsing as he left his legs behind him. Immediately it was clear it was a significant injury; Haliburton slapped his fists against the floor while his head turned parallel to the court.
A look of pure agony could be seen on his face, and Tyrese Haliburton remained in serious pain as trainers came over to him. He was escorted off the floor, not putting any weight on his right leg.
The ABC broadcast crew calling the game recognized the injury right away, as the play developed on the other end of the floor following a turnover by Haliburton. Then all eyes turned to the injured star.
“Haliburton falls down. He looks hurt. …,” announcer Mike Breen said. “Haliburton’s hurt. Right away when he fell. Of course that strained calf, he’s in pain. So emotional. It’s the right calf. Right away he knew he was in trouble. You get in a situation like this you’re just sick to your stomach for the young man.”
During the second quarter of the game, the Indiana Pacers provided an update on Tyrese Haliburton’s status for the rest of the game. He will not play again, out for the night with an injury to his lower right leg.
