Tyrese Haliburton Leaves Logan Paul Stunned While Revealing His Nickname’s Origins

Tyrese Haliburton did not envision him finishing the 2025 playoffs in this manner. He, along with his Indiana Pacers, had become the hottest team in the postseason, and basketball fans wanted them to win the NBA championship.

They were on course after levelling the NBA Finals and forcing a Game 7. Haliburton and his teammates had the momentum, while the Oklahoma City Thunder were already on their back foot.

The point guard started with a bang, scoring 9 points in 7 minutes. During this time, OKC fans were quiet, whereas Pacers fans were livid. They had seen this story repeat and rewind quite a few times in the 2025 playoffs.

The Pacers had created a narrative around them as being the best in clutch situations. At the head of those runs was Tyrese Haliburton himself. He used his late-game instincts to triumph over the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1st round and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2nd.

By the time he was doing the same to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals, fans gave him the nickname, ‘Haliban’. When he appeared on the podcast Impaulsive, host Mike Majlak asked Haliburton about his opinion on that nickname.

It’s unfortunate that it is such. The Taliban is a terrible group of people, and it’s unfortunate that on social media it becomes a thing. Obviously, I can never publicly acknowledge it.

Tyrese Haliburton said

The 25-year-old understands that fans would love it if he acknowledged the nickname, but he cannot, as it is in reference to a terrorist organization.

Logan Paul did not fully understand Tyrese Haliburton’s nickname

This particular ‘Haliban’ nickname came about after the way Tyrese Haliburton upset teams with clutch plays in games where the opponents felt they had it in their bag. Logan Paul, while listening to the Iowa State alum talk about it, wanted to reconfirm the origin of this nickname.

They call you The Haliban because you are a terrorist on the court? That’s the thing?

Logan Paul asked

His co-host, Majlak, confirmed it, but then the star point guard said this:

Well, but we were in New York.

Tyrese Haliburton replied

Paul did not initially catch what the Pacers guard said. But then, he realized that the Haliban nickname was specific to his exploits against the New York Knicks.

The WWE star shut down the moment he understood the true meaning. He did not speak another word once he understood how significant that incident was in the history of the country.

Recovering Tyrese Haliburton makes it to watch Fever

Those playoff runs came to an end when, 5 seconds after his explosive start to Game 7, Tyrese Haliburton’s Achilles blew out. The Wisconsin native has since undergone surgery and still uses a boot and crutches to get around.

He has been ruled out for next season, which means he will spend the next year recovering. But his love for basketball saw the 25-year-old return to his place of work to watch the Indiana Fever.

His close friend, Caitlin Clark, is also out injured, but that did not stop him from showing up courtside along with fiancée Jade Jones and Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery.

They watched and cheered as the Fever blew out the visiting Seattle Storm. If they make it to the playoffs, expect the 6′ 5″ star to keep going to their home games.

He knows the sister team does not have a good chance, as 3 other players are on the injury list alongside Clark. They have a team comprising 7-day contract players, which will not work out when the playoffs start.
