Dustin Poirier will make his final walk to the UFC Octagon at UFC 318 for his third battle with Max Holloway. The fight is for the BMF belt and is taking place in Poirier’s home state of Louisiana. His walkout will include a special guest, legendary rapper Lil Wayne. Poirier has said that he will retire regardless of the outcome. He defeated Holloway in 2012 and 2019.
Both fighters liked the idea of “Weezy” putting the belt around the winner’s waist would be a good idea. Their fight is the only five round fight of the night as it is for the BMF belt. Poirier told reporters, “Yeah, Wayne’s walking out with me.” Poirier has lost in previous lightweight title fights to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Charles Oliveira, and Islam Makhachev. He will have the chance to hang up the gloves after taking home one more belt.
Holloway promised fans another war, and Poirier said he’s “leaving everything in the cage.” Holloway enters this battle after a knockout loss to Ilia Topuria. Holloway won the belt against Justin Gaethje with a last-second knockout at UFC 300.
This will put an end to a legendary MMA career. Poirier has some very impressive wins over some of the greatest fighters in the sport. He will get to fight for the final time in front of a hometown crowd at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Holloway will try to ruin the perfect ending.
