One of the biggest fights of the year, in any combat sport, will be the clash between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Terrence Crawford. The fight, will be promoted by Dana White and the TKO company, Turki Al-Sheikh announced last Saturday after Canelo's debut in Saudi Arabia, where he defeated William Scull by decision.

UFC CEO Dana White dropped an announcement during an interview with ESPN Deportes, revealing that the highly anticipated superfight between boxing legend Canelo Alvarez and pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford will be produced and operated as a UFC event.

The blockbuster matchup is set to take place on September 12 in Las Vegas, followed by Noche UFC on September 13 in Guadalajara, México—creating an unprecedented combat sports spectacle under the UFC banner.

White said of the clash between boxing’s two biggest stars, “This is one of the biggest fights ever, and obviously I’m honored to promote it.”

The UFC President detailed the UFC’s involvement in promoting the upcoming fight.

“When they say we’re promoting it, I’m doing the promotion, we’re doing the production, the event ops, PR, I mean everything to do with the fight just like a UFC fight, while at the same time promoting UFC Noche,” White told Carlos Contreras Legaspi of ESPN Deportes. “It will all be the same weekend.”

White has refused to do stadium events in the past, however, because he prefers the fan experience in an arena.

“Nothing will change my mind about a stadium show,” White said during the press conference for UFC Kansas City. “I really like this town and the energy in that place was awesome all night. That’s the energy you get in an [arena].”

As September approaches, all eyes will be on how this experiment unfolds. Dana White is betting big that fight fans are ready for a new era—where the biggest nights in combat sports don’t just share headlines, but production teams.

“It’s a badass weekend of fights,” White predicted.
