Former Ohio State Buckeyes/Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer raised some eyebrows in April when he said the Tennessee Vols are "screwed" in the wake of losing quarterback Nico Iamaleava to the NCAA transfer portal.
Meyer doubled-down on that take this week while predicting how many games the Vols will win in 2025 without Iamaleava.
"They're screwed," said Meyer. "I'm going to say it again. You wouldn't let a potential first round pick, not let, but the potential first rounder walks out on you, especially a starting quarterback of a team that was in the playoffs, a team that at times was really, really good. And he was a young quarterback. You know what happens to young quarterbacks? They get better."
Meyer went through Tennessee's 2025 schedule game-by-game and he gave Tennessee wins against Syracuse, East Tennessee State, UAB, Mississippi State, New Mexico State, and Vanderbilt. He gave the Vols losses to Georgia and Alabama, while also predicting that Tennessee will split the games against Arkansas/Oklahoma and Kentucky/Florida.
That comes out to an 8-4 prediction for Tennessee in 2025 from Meyer, which seems fair considering the Vols are in the unique position of losing their starting quarterback at the end of spring practice.
"I will go back on record again and say that Tennessee is screwed," said Meyer. "But you can get unscrewed real fast if that team develops."
In the words of Urban Meyer, Tennessee is hoping to get unscrewed real fast in 2025.
