Urban Meyer reportedly has 'no interest' in Michigan State job

A report surfaced on Tuesday night about Urban Meyer interviewing for the Michigan State job but it was quickly refuted.

A local media member broke some “news” on Tuesday night as he reported that Urban Meyer was in East Lansing and he’d be interviewing for the Michigan State job. This sent social media into a frenzy almost immediately.

Many were hesitant to believe the report because it hadn’t come from anyone credible nationally and the media member used a heart eye emoji as part of his tweet (questionable choice if you want to retain credibility). But it was quickly shot down on Wednesday afternoon by national college football expert Bruce Feldman.

In fact, Feldman went straight to the source and Urban told him he had “no interest” in the job and that he’s happy with FOX Sports.

About the “reports” linking Urban Meyer to the Michigan State HC job… I just checked with him. There is zero truth to it with him being a candidate for it. He has no interest in that, and is happy with what he’s doing now at Fox Sports.

OK, we can probably just declare this pipe dream for Michigan State fans officially dead.

While we’ve seen people post screenshots of the last time Urban Meyer said he wasn’t taking a job only to take it weeks later, this isn’t Ohio State and he’s not 10 years younger. Meyer has retired for a reason and while a return to college football is possible, he won’t be taking over a rebuild. He’s at the stage of his career in which he’s trying to “win now”.

Meyer emerged as a popular candidate for Michigan State fans because of his disdain for Michigan and the fact that he’s one of the top college football coaches of all time. He could be looking to get back into coaching and Michigan State has a history of success and can pay big money which could’ve grabbed his attention.

But now we can all move on to some realistic candidates. Guys like Mike Elko, Charles Huff, Jake Dickert, and Sean Lewis come to mind. It’s time to be realistic.
