Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer is one step closer to a prestigious honor that will put him with the best of the best.
Meyer was named to the 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot as one of the coaches on the list. Meyer coached at Ohio State for the longest of his four stops in college football as a head coach.
Meyer was in Columbus from 2012 until 2018 and compiled a record of 83-9 at Ohio State alone and 187-32 over the course of his college coaching career.
Back in 2001, Meyer was the coach at Bowling Green and went 17-6 there over two seasons before taking the job at Utah. While at Utah, Meyer was 22-2 over two seasons and then took a job at Florida where he spent the next six seasons. While at Florida, Meyer held a record of 65-15 and won two National Championships, one of which was over Ohio State in the 2006-07 season.
For Ohio State, Meyer is most notable for winning the National Championship in 2014, which was his third overall as a coach. Following Jim Tressel's leaving Ohio State, Meyer brought his SEC-style recruitment of speed to Ohio State and took the recruiting up a notch. The Buckeyes have not slowed down in that department since Ryan Day took over.
The full ballot includes 77 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 101 players and 34 coaches from the divisional ranks. The 2025 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially inducted during the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Bellagio Hotel & Resort on Dec. 9, 2025.
Perhaps the most impressive feat for Meyer at Ohio State is that he was 7-0 against Michigan during his time in Columbus.
Following a partial season as the coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL, Meyer has gone into broadcasting for Fox and that is where he remains. Soon, he and Saban both will likely make their way into the College Football Hall of Fame together after battling it out for many years against each on the field and on the road.
