With the addition of Vernon Adams Jr. this offseason, it has been assumed that the Calgary Stampeders have all but given the veteran quarterback and East All-Star their starting signal-caller position.
While the team may have their starter for the 2025 CFL season gearing up and getting ready to go, they can never have too much depth at the game’s most important position, and a recent move has evidenced that.
The Calgary Stampeders have signed former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Josh Love as an insurance option for the 2025 season. Love has yet to play a snap north of the border, but there could be some potential.
Love played four years at San Jose State from 2016-19, passing for 7,206 yards, 43 touchdowns and 29 interceptions in 41 games. He signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent in April 2020 but was released during the 2020 preseason and has never appeared in an NFL regular season game.
Love spent the past four seasons with the Pittsburgh Maulers, Michigan Panthers and Memphis Showboats of the USFL/United Football League. He owns the league record for highest completion percentage in a game (90%), which he set in 2023 with the Panthers.
Through three seasons in the USFL/UFL, Love threw for 2,660 yards, 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
The Stampeders will open their season at McMahon Stadium on June 7 against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
