To most fans of the UTSA Roadrunners, this one won't come as a huge surprise.

Outgoing quarterback Frank Harris announced on his social media channels on Tuesday evening that he would be formally stepping away from football. Harris threw for 11,858 yards with a 66.9 career completion percentage in five seasons at UTSA.

"The game of football has taught me so much, It has changed my life FOREVER and I’ll forever be thankful for that," Harris stated. "With that being said I don’t know how life would be without it, but after having 10 surgeries playing this sport, my body has been through a lot and I don’t regret anything, for it has made me the man I am today. Although this is hard for me, I think it’s best that I move on from football and move onto the next chapter of my life."

Harris missed the 2018 season with knee injuries and missed most of the 2019 season with a separated shoulder. This past spring, Harris reportedly almost lost his leg due to infection after an abundance of surgeries to remove scar tissue from his left knee. Remarkably, Harris was able to get mostly healthy after that and play one more season in 2023.

Harris technically could have pursued professional opportunities, but given his injury history, the move seems a logical decision.

The Schertz, Texas native set more than 30 UTSA program records during his time as a Roadrunner and led UTSA to Conference USA titles in 2021 and 2022.

"I pray I’m not remembered for breaking records or winning games but remembered as a God fearing humble person who LOVES his city and being a great role model for the younger kids," Harris noted at the end of his aforementioned statement. "I’m excited to see what God has in store for me!!"
