Vierchowod: Who is the best defender in Serie A?

Former Italy defender Pietro Vierchowod has picked his best defender in Serie A this season.

Vierchowod has played for Juventus, Roma, Fiorentina and Sampdoria and was asked his choice for the best defender in the country.

He told Radio 1: "I see few of them. Maybe (Atalanta's Giorgio) Scalvini: he can still grow. But most are foreigners and this is a problem for the national team too."

On Max Allegrils work at Juve, Vierchowod added: "There aren't many teams that play well. In the middle of the pitch Juve only has attacking players, they're not good at managing the ball. Where does the game start from? The attackers are always left alone.

"It's certainly also the coach's fault, the management is his."
