Virginia Tech Signs Tennessee's Alyssa Latham

Latham will have one year of eligibility remaining, and is a short-term pickup similar to Mel Daley and Kilah Freelon for Tech last year.

Goodman reported that Latham had previously taken official visits to Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. In her collegiate career, Latham has started 47 games, averaging 5.7 points and 4.8 assists in 20 minutes per game.

Latham played at Tennessee for two years, but entered collegiate basketball as an ACC player, playing at Syracuse. As a freshman for Syracuse, she started all but six of the 32 games that she played in, averaging 8.6 points and a team-high seven rebounds per game on 46.0%/28.6%/63.3% shooting splits. As a result, Latham was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

However, when she transferred to Tennessee ahead of the 2024-25 season, he role diminished.

Coming off the bench for all but five games that season, Latham's totals decreased to 3.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

Last season, Latham averaged 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 19.1 minutes per game (16 starts). Latham shot a career-best 53.9% (48-for-89) from the field. Latham produced five double-digit scoring outputs. Two of her strongest performances came against then-No. 21 Alabama (12 points, four rebounds, 6-of-7 from the field) on Jan. 18 and Missouri (15 points, five rebounds, 7-of-10 from the field) on Feb. 12.

Tennessee lost eight straight games to close out the season, and as a 10-seed, was eliminated in the Round of 64 of the NCAA Tournament by seven-seed N.C. State. In that game, Latham saw the court for 16 minutes, scoring two points on 1-of-3 shooting and compiling five rebounds.

With Latham's addition, the Hokies now have 13 scholarship players on the roster, with two available spots remaining. Latham's commitment came six days after rising junior forward Kayl Petersen announced her intentions to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Monday, April 6.
