Tragedy struck a Walmart store in Covington, Georgia in the early hours of Friday morning as an employee shot two people inside of the store.

According to ABC News, 24-year-old Walmart employee Dwayne Eduh is alleged to have left the building, retrieved a firearm, re-entered the building, located an acquaintance - 21-year-old Khalaf Barksdale - and then shot him.

Upon leaving the store, Eduh allegedly encountered a second acquaintance - 29-year-old Ryan Bradley - and shot him too.

Per the report, the first victim was killed in the shooting, while the second victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition but has since stabilized.

Unfortunately, the tragedy continued beyond the grounds of the Walmart as Eduh allegedly left the area, forced entry into a residence at a nearby neighborhood, found a female acquaintance - 19-year-old Akeela Clarke - and fatally shot her as well.

In a statement, the Newton County Sheriff's Office stated that the shootings are believed to have been perpetrated against someone the shooter knew personally.

"This was not an active shooter situation. The suspect specifically targeted individuals they knew," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

No customers were in the store at the time of the shooting.

As for Eduh, he allegedly fled the scene before a brief standoff with law enforcement in Aiken County, South Carolina. He reportedly shot himself and was taken to a local hospital.

He survived the shooting and is currently in critical condition, per the report.

Walmart has released a statement of their own. On Friday, they announced that they were "heartbroken" by the tragedy and said that they are supporting law enforcement with their investigation into the shooting.

"We’re heartbroken by what’s happened. There’s no place for violence in our stores. We’re focused on taking care of our associates and supporting law enforcement with their investigation," Walmart said in a statement Friday.
