Dave Ward, head coach for the Bristol Bears Women’s rugby team, will be leaving the club this summer to take on a new opportunity.
“ I would like to thank Bristol Bears for the opportunity to coach the women’s program, an opportunity I have loved for the last four years and will hold close in years to come,” Ward said in a club statement.
Ward, who joined the Bears in 2021 with his wife, England player Abbie Ward, has guided the team to four consecutive PWR semifinals and one final.
Ward expressed his gratitude to Bristol Bears, particularly the staff, owners, and board, for their continued support in making the program a leading one in the country.
“The staff I have worked with, particularly Steve, Maggie and Jon Lansdown have been exceptional to make the program take lead,” Ward said.
He also thanked head coach Pat Lam and assistant coach Tom Luke for the unwavering support, and most importantly, he acknowledged the special Bristol fans.
“I would like to thank Pat, coaching team and assistant coach Tom who’s been a great support all through in this incredible journey, also thank you to the Bristol people for your support are indeed special” Ward said.
Most significantly, my appreciation to the players for their dedication and commitment, which he believes has inspired the next generation.
“ I would like to thank the players for their dedication to not only keep improving as an individual rugby player but inspire others has left a mark on me ,” he said.
During his four tenures he has also seen several players’ progress to represent their countries at the international level. He looks forward to supporting the club as a fan in the future.
