The Golden State Warriors have been the quietest team of the 2025 NBA offseason so far.
Most of their plans are on hold as they wait to sort out Jonathan Kuminga’s contract situation.
Until Kuminga chooses between the two-year, $45 million offer or sticks with the $7.9 million qualifying deal, it does not seem likely Golden State will add anyone else significant.
Even so, the Warriors have brought in another player for training camp.
Golden State have agreed to a training camp deal with Taevion Kinsey, according to a report from NBA insider Michael Scotto.
The deal marks the Warriors’ first addition of the offseason, as the Kuminga situation continues to drag on.
During camp, Kinsey will vie for a regular-season roster spot. However, this signing may not be what fans anticipated.
The Golden State Warriors and Taevion Kinsey have agreed to a deal, league sources told @hoopshype. Kinsey was on a 10-day and two-way contract with the Utah Jazz in 2024. Some comments on social media summed up how supporters felt: “give us better news.”
The 25-year-old guard spent last season with the Salt Lake City Stars in the G-League, where he averaged 12.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in just under 34 minutes per game across 50 appearances.
Kinsey also signed two-way and 10-day deals with the Utah Jazz during that span, but he did not appear in an NBA game.
Though he has not played in the NBA yet, Kinsey had a few things going for him during his time in the G-League.
His shot-making and defensive play were good enough to at least catch Golden State’s eye.
He hit 51.9% from the field last season and 33% from beyond the arc, while adding 1.2 steals per game.
The year before, he shot an impressive 51.1% from three, though that was on just 2.7 attempts per game.
Still, his shooting could fit well with what the Warriors do offensively – a system built on spacing and ball movement.
The team has often turned to their Santa Cruz affiliate to help mould players into their style of play.
This was not the headline move fans wanted, but if Kinsey lands a two-way deal and keeps progressing with Santa Cruz, he could work his way into a useful role down the line.
