The Warriors are adding another guard to the mix, as free agent Taevion Kinsey is expected to sign with Golden State, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Scotto didn’t specify the contract details, but the deal is likely an Exhibit 10. That would make Kinsey eligible for a bonus of up to $85,300 if he’s waived before the season and then spends at least 60 days with the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. Exhibit 10s can also be converted to two-way contracts, though Golden State’s two-way slots may already be spoken for.
Kinsey, 25, has been working to carve out an NBA role since going undrafted in 2023. A standout at Marshall, where he finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer and won Sun Belt Player of the Year as a “super senior,” he has spent most of the past two seasons with the Salt Lake City Stars in the G League.
He’s had short stints with the Jazz, signing Exhibit 10 deals in back-to-back offseasons, plus a 10-day contract in March 2024. He also spent about a month on a two-way last summer but has yet to make his NBA debut.
Last season with the Stars, Kinsey averaged 12.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 52.5 percent from the field. The year before, he knocked down nearly 43 percent of his threes.
Kinsey was recently named to G League United’s roster for the upcoming FIBA Intercontinental Cup in September, giving him more game action heading into Warriors camp.
