Montez Sweat, Chase Young, Casey Toohill and James Smith-Williams were the to-four defensive ends on the Washington Football Team depth chart at the start of the season. Washington will now be without all four Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

All but Young are currently on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Washington added Toohill Sunday morning. Sweat, who was already on injured reserve with a broken jaw, was added earlier this week. Smith-Williams was added Saturday.

That goes on top of Young being out for the remainder of the season with a torn ACL.

Washington will announce a corresponding move for Toohill later before the game.

The Washington Football Team avoided a COVID outbreak last year during the pandemic-stricken 2020 season. Only two non-active players tested positive for the coronavirus. The team went the first 13 weeks of the season avoiding it as well.

Now, unfortunately, the team has been hit hard, particularly in the defensive end room. Linebacker Khaleke Hudson and cornerback Darryl Roberts are also in COVID-19 protocols. Hudson was also placed on IR this week with an ankle injury.

Washington’s pass rush already has taken a hit without Young and Sweat. Now adding the next two men up to the unavailable list just complicates matters for coordinator Jack Del Rio and the Washington defense.
