Duke defeated its rivals from Raleigh, 2-1, with Adam Luckhurst scoring both of the Blue Devils' goals. Luckhurst scored the equalizer in the 60th minute and then banged a penalty kick into the back of the net in the 76th minute.

ACC commissioner reveals strong stance with FSU football
Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner Jim Phillips recently spoke at the ACC Kickoff and discussed the dynamic with Florida State and Clemson after they settled their lawsuits against the league last month. “Maybe everybody doesn’t get exactly what you want, but you get to a place that’s for the greater good, and that’s where I felt it was different,” Commissioner Phillips said. “I know what the Florida State and Clemson people were saying, and they said it to the entire group, about their desire to be in the ACC and all the rest of that. I believe them, I really do. I have a responsibility to make sure that our ACC schools want to be in this league. Not just have to be in this league. I think that’s important." Phillips continued, mentioning that the league is "situated nicely right now" despite two of its biggest brands (and maybe more) possibly leaving the conference in the next half-decade. “You talk about viewership and success on how to distribute dollars. You talk about coming back off of the most revenue we’ve ever distributed. 29 national championships," Phillips said. "The sport of football is getting better, and we want to take another step this year." "The league is situated nicely right now. Difficult, bumpy, challenging — but let’s not let a lazy narrative, from the standpoint of not people not moving on and understanding kind of where we’re going. I feel like the league has earned that. Nobody gave that to us," Phillips added. Finally, Commissioner Phillips shared his belief that the league is set up for the next 10 years with the TV contract they have with ESPN. “We were steady. You didn’t see us at all move this way or that way. People said a lot of things about the league, but at the end of the day, that’s what we’re at," Phillips said. "Also, our partnership with ESPN. which everybody said was not going to happen through 2035-36, which gives us a platform for the ACC for the next decade." There appears to be more conference realignment on the horizon. How it will affect the ACC and FSU is yet to be seen. The Seminoles will open their season against the Alabama Crimson Tide on Aug. 30 at 3:30 p.m. ET in Tallahassee.

What is going on with the Detroit Tigers right now? That's what the entire baseball world is wondering as the team that had been dominant throughout the first part of the season has crumbled in front of everyone's eyes. After being the first to win 60 games, they are stuck on that number, while three teams have surpassed them and four others have joined them at that mark. It's easy to understand why there might be panic about Detroit. Despite their incredible run during the back stretch of last season that took them one win away from reaching the ALCS, not many people expected this team to do much in 2025, pointing to their middling roster that was full of young and unproven talent. Before the All-Star break, not much went wrong even with all the injuries they suffered. But it's been a different story since then. "I've never been on a team that hasn't gone through a little bit of something at some point. There is no easy 162-game schedule," he said to reporters, including Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press. How does he aim to get his team back on track? By being steady and not reacting one way or another to what has happened. "A steady approach works. It's not always easy. It's not always the most popular because you want this massive reaction one way or the other. We've got to play the game that's in front of us today," Hinch added. "... The steadiness is what these guys are looking for." Detroit's Major League roster has had to grow up quickly. Still in the midst of a prolonged rebuild, all of a sudden they were thrust into the spotlight with their late-season run in 2024 that carried over into the first part of this year. It's uncharted territory for many in organization, and that includes the decision makers at the top. He's been there before, previously leading an unproven group on an unproven franchise to sustained success. "I've managed 100-plus win teams that have gone through six- and seven- and eight-game losing streaks, or lost 12 of 13. You don't think of that because we forget over time. There's going to be a time that we all forget about this. It's just not right now when you're going through it. You feel like you're getting suffocated day by day where the first thing that goes wrong brings back the thoughts of previous games. Welcome to sports. It's an emotional ride. Those that stay steady will survive," Hinch stated. The Tigers are looking to do exactly that, and if they can come out of this on the other side, then they should be much better for it. Rangers Sign Former Stanley Cup Champion to Tryout Agreement
The New York Rangers are adding to their forward depth ahead of their upcoming training camp. The Rangers are entering a new chapter of their organization under new head coach Mike Sullivan. After missing the postseason last year, the organization is trying to rebound and respond accordingly in 2025 and 2026. Former Stanley Cup champion forward Conor Sheary is the latest player to join the new-look Rangers. The veteran forward agreed to a professional tryout agreement (PTO) with the club and will look to earn an NHL deal with his performance in training camp and the preseason. Sheary is a veteran of 593 NHL games. Originally an undrafted free agent, he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins after completing his collegiate career. Following a year with the Penguins' AHL affiliate, he forced his way onto the NHL squad after posting 36 points in his first 30 games of the 2015-2016 season at the AHL level. His debut NHL season went better than ever expected, and he was a key part of the Penguins' lineup that won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2016 and 2017. Sheary's coach at the time, both at the AHL and NHL levels, was Mike Sullivan. Now, he'll get the chance to reunite with the coach under whom he won two championships. In addition to playing for the Penguins, Sheary has played for three other NHL franchises. The Pens dealt him to the Buffalo Sabres before the 2018-2019 campaign, but he would return to Pittsburgh the following season at the trade deadline. After his second stint with the Penguins, he joined the Washington Capitals. He played three seasons in Washington, D.C. before landing with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he spent the past two years. Over his 593 career games, he's compiled 124 goals and 143 assists for 267 points. His best NHL season came during the 2016-2017 campaign, his second in the league. He scored 23 goals and added 30 assists for 53 points in 61 regular-season games.
Chicago Sky Announce Angel Reese Update for Indiana Fever Game
Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese missed Thursday night's game against the Seattle Storm due to a back injury. It was the second blowout loss in as many games for the Sky, who now sit at 7-17 on the WNBA season, five losses back of a postseason spot. The injury to Reese is a concerning development for a Sky team with little to no margin for error right now. An All-Star for the second straight season, Reese has averaged 13.8 points and 12.5 rebounds in 22 games for Chicago in 2025. As they eye a date with the Indiana Fever on Sunday, the Sky have announced an official Reese update. Seen going through individual drills on Saturday, Reese was on the court seemingly testing out her back ahead of Sunday's afternoon affair in Chicago. Following her morning work, Reese was officially listed as questionable on the injury report. Reese is joined on the injury report by several of her teammates, including rookie guard Hailey Van Lith who was a surprise addition with an ankle injury. As it pertains to Reese, this update should not come as much of a surprise. While she was eventually ruled out against Seattle, she did start the day questionable, which is the same approach Chicago is taking on its latest injury report. That said, Reese not being ruled out a day in advance is good news. It indicates she has a chance to play, which also suggests the injury is not too serious — aligning with comments made by head coach Tyler Marsh who has been reiterating Reese is day-to-day with this back injury. With Caitlin Clark expected to miss this game with a groin injury, the contest could be without both she and Reese.
