‘We Are Devastated’: Major College Football Team’s Freshman Died Days Before Camp

Per the statement, the team did not release any more details out of respect for the family.

“We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams, a freshman on the team, passed away last night in Cordova, Tennessee,” The statement reads. “While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

“Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.”

Corey Adams was a victim of a mass shooting

Per Ken Daley of Fox 8, Adams was a victim of a mass shooting.

“A mass shooting in Tennessee has claimed the life of Corey Adams, a former Edna Karr High School football standout, according to reports,” Daley wrote. “The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Adams, 18, was killed late Saturday night (July 19) in a shooting that left four other men wounded.

“The shooting took place around 10:14 p.m. outside a residence on Fern Glade Cove in Cordova — an eastern suburb of Memphis — the agency said. Deputies said they stopped a vehicle and found a male gunshot victim inside. They “provided life-saving measures until Shelby County Fire arrived,” but the victim — later identified as Adams — died at the scene.”

Adams was a three-star defensive end set to begin his first season in the Rebels’ program, per the Rebel’s website.

Fans sent prayers to the family.

“Prays for the family and the program,” wrote a fan.

“Praying for the families and Ole Miss!” posted another.
