Usually, Kai Trump and the world of Tennis wouldn’t have anything in common. But Miami’s where they met, and that was much to the fans’ dislike.
Donald Trump’s granddaughter was present to witness Aryna Sabalenka advance through the semifinal. The Belarusian had Elena Rybakina by 6-4, 6-3, and Kai’s Instagram story suggested that she liked that performance a bit too much.
She posted a photo with Sabalenka on her story and captioned it, “So much fun watching @arynasabalenka… Let’s get it on Saturday.” And this did not make the fans happy for one clear reason.

It’s the opponent Sabalenka will face in the Final. Which is none other than the 22-year-old American tennis icon, Coco Gauff. Kai, supporting the Belarusian over the American, seems to have picked a bone with the fans, who have taken it to X.
This will mark the 13th time for the Belarusian and the American going off at each other. Up to this point, they have a 6-6 balance, which makes this Miami final even more crucial. Playing on home ground, Gauff is the fan-favourite here. And the fans made that pretty clear.
“Rooting for a Belarusian over a fellow American. What a disgrace”, the fan did not hold back. While another wrote, “Have always been a fan of Aryna, but have to support our Americans in the finals. Team Coco at the Miami Open.”
Some fans let it be known that they do like Sabalenka as a tennis icon, and Kai’s gesture as a tennis fan is likeable too. But as an American, Kai’s favouritism should’ve leaned towards Gauff.
“I like Kai’s gesture, but it does feel odd that she doesn’t support Gauff, an American, in the final”, they wrote. Another commentator added, “I’ll be rooting for American Coco Gauff, so should she. Kai Trump forgot she’s American.”
Now, there’s another thing. Sabalenka reshared Kai’s story on her own Instagram. Although she did not write a line, those arms and finger-cross emojis were a direct nod to Kai’s urge: the Belarusian is ready for the Final. And one fan highlighted a specific angle about it.
“Sabalenka clearly knows Kai. They look like acquaintances & Insta friends, too”, they wrote and posted a screenshot of Sabalenka’s reply to Kai’s story to back up that claim.
Although some suggested that Kai’s behaviour was just like that of any normal tennis fan, the majority agreed on the same point.
