Whey Jennings, Waylon's Grandson to Release Debut Album

If you miss Waylon Jennings and are looking for a real outlaw country fix, his grandson is on the way.  Whey Jennings is the grandson of the legendary outlaw country star Waylon Jennings.

Whey had some pretty big shoes to fill, honestly.  With Waylon and Shooter in your family tree, falling in the shadows just happens. 

It would be easy to, and likely has been done, compare Whey to his grandpa.  Without a question when you listen to his music, you can hear his family heritage in his music, but he has his own voice and style.

Whey has been refining his sound and finding his way since about 2012. He's put hours and hours on the stage in joints across the country.  

He has released three EPs, 2020 - Gypsy Soul, 2022 - If It Wasn't for The Sinnin' and 2023 - Just Before The Dawn.  

According to Saving Country Music, Jennings is now ready to release his debut, highly anticipated, full length album, Jekyll & Hyde.  The album will be released August 23, 2024.

Eight of the twelve songs found on the upcoming album were co-written by Whey.  Songwriter Wes Shipp has multiple contributions to the album as well.

Whey can put so much soul into his music as he has lived the lyrics.  This album highlights the transformation he has made in both music and life.  

Jennings talked about his album, “I believe what we’re doing is powerful and I believe it’s going to change lives. I want to be an entertainer, but I also want to be somebody who makes you think about not only who you are, but who everyone around you is, and how to make this world a better place. I want people to feel my music."

"This album’s got something for everyone on it, but I’m calling it ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ because that song encases the whole project,” Jennings says. “There’s me back then, and there’s the new me now. The depth with some of these songs really touches my soul.”

Dirt Rock Empire will be behind the release of Whey's debut album.  This album looks to elevate Whey to the country music industry on a national scale.
