Israel Abrams is nowhere close to being a surprise prospect.

As a junior, he threw for over 4,000 yards and led Montini Catholic (IL) to a state title, and at 6-foot-4 and at least 190 lbs, he's not an easy guy to miss.

There are those who say the 2027 quarterback class is missing its studs, but Abrams disagrees, along with the likes of Will Mencl, another Hurricanes quarterback prospect.

Abrams possesses the kind of live arm that some of the best Miami offenses have thrived under in recent years with the likes of Cam Ward, Carson Beck and now Darian Mensah.

Abrams is privately coached by former Minnesota Golden Gopher Mike Hohensee, and while Minnesota was in contention for Abrams early on in the recruitment cycle, the blue bloods have come calling for what is proving to be a blue chip prospect.

Miami hosted Abrams on a visit this week, and according to On3 Sports' recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong, the Hurricanes have picked up the pace on the 2027 prospect. Abrams knows he isn't the only signal-caller the Hurricanes like from this cycle, so a decision might come sooner rather than later.

Jai Lucas Continues to Build Momentum on the Recruiting Trail

One McDonald's All-American is already in the boat for the Hurricanes, but Miami head coach Jai Lucas is looking to add fuel to the fire in the form of five-star guard Brandon McCoy. There is, of course, some competition for the coveted perimeter threat, though.

Arkansas, Michigan, and Alabama are all in the mix for McCoy along with Miami as decision day draws nearer. All of these are solid landing spots for a guard looking to make an immediate impact, but only one just won the coach of the year award.
