Why did Gerwyn Price not play at Players Championship 24 as social media post explains all
Taylor Lanning/PDC

Gerwyn Price suddenly had to withdraw from Players Championship 24 this morning and it is now confirmed why with The Iceman suffering an unwanted setback after recent superb form.

Price has his darting mojo back and was all set to go into a busy few weeks starting in Milton Keynes today but when the draw was confirmed, his name was missing. He then took to social media a few hours later with the reason why: "Just what I didn't want, back to the hospital it is".

While Price did not confirm, his hand looks very swollen in the image that he put on socials and he has a history of this. Price fractured his hand back in 2022 and had to withdraw from a Premier League night.

He also won a Players Championship back then with the injury and he had no prognosis apart from that his right hand was swollen. It is not the opportune moment for Price to get injured with the Flanders Darts Trophy now likely in doubt as well as the Czech Darts Open and World Series Finals in the coming weeks.

After a pretty calm time in the darting world, Price now faces a battle to be fit ahead of a busy time of the season when his form had started to peak the most.

In the end, Jeffrey de Graaf mastered one of the best fields in some time on the ProTour, it was a maiden title for the Swedish Dutchman who made history as the first player from his nation to win a ProTour. He beat Stephen Bunting in the final 8-7 with Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen back in the fray for the first time in some time in these events. The eyes are now peeled on Price's socials and also on Antwerp on Saturday as presumably he will not play tomorrow in MK either.
