The Wisconsin Badgers recently offered a legacy quarterback recruit within the 2028 cycle who could become a viable option in time.

Matthew Lee, a 2028 quarterback from Illinois, is a double-legacy athlete for Wisconsin with to relatives that played for the program. Extending Lee early became something the Badgers and quarterbacks coach Kenny Guiton felt was necessary after spending time with the recruit.

Lee had a throwing session with Guiton that last roughly 45 minutes and proved to be a valuable learning moment from the quarterback. When asked about the meeting, Lee expressed a desire to speak with Guiton more due to his “professional experience” at the position. The result of the throwing session was a scholarship offer from Guiton to Lee, which came as a shock for the recruit.

The Wisconsin Badgers are now the first team to offer the 2028 quarterback, who should see many more offers fly his way shortly. The quarterback has also been in contact with Boston College, Minnesota, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Ohio State without an offer to show for yet. Most programs are likely waiting until Lee meets with them in person before dishing out a valuable scholarship offer as the recruit has already proven himself on the field.

Often times for recruits the first offer is the one that gets the ball rolling and the process will surely begin to heat up for Lee. The quarterback holds a long list of programs who have been in contact but have not yet felt comfortable with pulling the trigger on a scholarship offer. With an offer in hand from the Wisconsin Badgers, that very well could change for other programs who are eager to get a closer look at the quarterback.

On the field, Lee has been nothing short of amazing for his class and currently sizes up as one of the top Midwest prospects. The quarterback is poised and mature for his age, rarely making mistakes and often impressing with his raw arm talent.

Lee has a great combination of maturity, physical talent, and awareness for his age that should continue to set the quarterback apart from other recruits.

In addition to great mature play for his age, Lee is also a mobile quarterback with a strong arm that could impress down the line with the right development. The quarterback has a great understanding of when the pocket is safe and when it is not, with the legs to allow for a quick escape when needed.

The Wisconsin Badgers love what the recruit has to offer at the position and hope an early offer could pay off down the road. Wisconsin will continue to monitor Lee and possible attempt to bring the recruit onto campus for a game during the upcoming season.
