The Wisconsin Badgers have announced new throwback uniforms ahead of the 2025 season, which kicks off in a week for the program.
Wisconsin had been overdue for a new throwback and the Badgers made the decision to do so ahead of arguably one of the toughest seasons in recent history. Wisconsin will play one of the hardest schedules in the country, but will also play many games on a big stage which could bring out the best in the team.

Currently, the Badgers are scheduled to wear the uniforms during the Homecoming game, which is October 11th against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Wisconsin has not announced a secondary date for the uniforms and likely will only wear the throwbacks for a single game during the season. Despite the new uniforms, some Badgers fans have mixed feelings about the execution of the throwbacks, some fans love them, and other fans want the focus to be on the field.
As far as the uniforms go, many Wisconsin Badgers fans are excited as the new design is an improvement over the previous design that had been used. The new uniforms also come at a key time in the history of the program as Wisconsin will attempt to blend the offensive roots of the program with new modern techniques and play types. Among the people who have shown appreciation for the new uniforms are key Badgers reporters such as Nick Osen and Jon McNamara of 247Sports.
Probably my personal favorite from past Wisconsin teams. Badgers will wear these for Homecoming on Oct. 11 against Iowa. https://t.co/b29AYhToAU pic.twitter.com/q96jBUitJq

I love ‘em. Think the helmets and top of the sleeves/shoulders are impeccable #Badgers https://t.co/dfVP1GwR3H

The W on the shoulder needs to be permanent.

Other Wisconsin Badgers fans, however, were not as impressed as the uniforms are very reminiscent of the old design. Additionally, some fans aired out grievances against Under Armour as the company enters the final year of a ten-year agreement that distributes roughly $3 million worth of product to the Badgers teams.
Wisconsin previously held conversations with Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour before ultimately signing a deal. The Wisconsin Badgers wore Adidas uniforms for 15 years and Reebok uniforms for five years before joining forces with Under Armour. Some fans may want a change after the contract ends less than a year from now, but signs point towards Wisconsin renegotiating with Under Armour.

We need new threads. Black red and white would be amazing . Helmets could have a fierce badgers on the front and the W on the sides in black and red. But hard to change a brand the W is Wisconsin

It would interesting if the old teams with those uniforms were actually great teams, but they were not. That’s why Barry changed the entire logo and image when he took over to set a new path forward. The last 30 years have been far better than any throwback teams.
