A top in-state target in the 2027 recruiting class for the Wisconsin basketball staff has earned a composite four-star rating in his debut.
Each year, new recruits are added into databases and ranked based on performance and other varying factors. One such recruit who was just recently entered into the 2027 recruiting class rankings is Jack Kohnen, a Slinger forward who is a member of the loaded class within the state of Wisconsin. Kohnen has received a four-star composite rating which would make him the fourth-overall recruit in the 2027 in-state class.
Currently, the class is headlined by power forward Donovan Davis, a strong four-star recruit who has held a scholarship from the Wisconsin basketball program for some time. Fellow four-star forward Dooney Johnson of Milwaukee takes the second spot while four-star guard Jalen Brown holds the third spot. Kohnen is currently the fourth ranked recruit with Kager Knueppel, brother of Kon Knueppel holding down the fifth spot.
While the Wisconsin basketball staff has put in some early work to keep some of the 2027 in-state class home, Kohnen might be one of the recruits who slips through the cracks.
Early on, the Wisconsin basketball staff has worked with Donovan Davis the most alongside Dooney Johnson, but neither recruit is expected to stay home. Davis and Johnson both have become major national recruits within the 2027 recruiting class, which would make keeping either recruit in Madison for the foreseeable future a difficult task.
Kohnen is a recruit the staff has a solid relationship with, but with Iowa and Iowa State both showing deep interest, Wisconsin might not be able to make up ground in the future. The Hawkeyes currently consider Kohnen to be a top recruit on the board in the 2027 recruiting class and have placed an early priority tag on the recruit. With other programs placing an emphasis on getting close to Kohnen, the Wisconsin basketball staff might already be stuck behind an insurmountable lead.
