The Wisconsin football program has lost a race to land a commitment from a 2026 three-star recruit who recently joined the board.
Chase Geter, a defensive back from Virginia, is a three-star recruit who received a scholarship from Wisconsin back in January. The defender cut down his recruiting list a few months later and gave Wisconsin, Syracuse, Duke, and Virginia official visits. Geter announced his commitment to Syracuse just days after conducting his final official visit.
After receiving a scholarship from the Wisconsin football staff and later setting up an official visit, Geter was closely tied to the program. However, after the commitment of Zachary Taylor, a fellow 2026 three-star defensive back, the Wisconsin staff shifted focus away from Geter.
The Wisconsin staff tried to make another late push for Geter, but the recruit had already set a commitment date and privately made a decision by this time.
While the loss of Geter stings, the Wisconsin football staff has shifted the recruiting focus entirely away from the safety position, and feel the right man for the job has already been landed.
Shortly before landing Taylor, the Wisconsin staff became highly impressed with the recruit and made a significant point out of trying to secure a commitment. Taylor is considered to be potentially the only safety in the 2026 class for the Badgers as the staff aims to land quality over quantity. Since landing Taylor, the Wisconsin staff has conducted all scheduled official visits but have begun to back away from some safety targets in the 2026 class such as Jowell Combay, Tony Forney, and Nick Reddish.
Many fans have complained about the lack of commitments in the 2026 class for the Wisconsin football staff thus far, but it is all according to plan. The staff has aimed to bring players onto campus who excite, regardless of star ratings or national rankings.
