Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Transfer Finds New Home in Portal

On her personal Instagram account, Copeland posted “home for good

️ #rockchalk #committed” along with pictures of her in KU gear. The 5-foot-7 guard averaged 7.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game last season for the Wisconsin women’s basketball team while usually guarding the opponent’s best perimeter player.

The Jayhawks will be rebuilding a bit after losing 6-foot-6 post, and WNBA second round draft pick, Taiyanna Jackson (12.6 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 3.0 bpg) as well as Zakiyah Franklin (11.8 ppg, 2.2 apg) and Holly Kersgieter (11.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg) from last year’s roster. KU does return star guard, and rising sophomore, S’Mya Nichols who averaged 15.4 ppg last year. Copeland and Nichols played together at the youth level and are good friends.

Copeland left the last game of her Wisconsin women’s basketball career, a WNIT quarterfinals loss to Saint Louis, with an apparent head injury and hopefully she is fully recovered and ready to start practice this summer with Kansas. She is one of three Badgers to enter the transfer portal this offseason and the first to find a new home.

Wisconsin will, presumably, be active in the portal as well while they try and fill out their rotation for next season.
