Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas powered the team’s win Friday over the Golden State Valkyries. Thomas notched her sixth triple-double of the regular season, leading the Mercury, 81-72, past the Valkyries. She was unstoppable and unpredictable, recording her season-high 16 assists.
Along with her passing stats, Thomas also had 13 points and 12 rebounds on 55.6% shooting from the field. The Engine proved to be a problem for the defense. They couldn't stop her from scoring and getting her entire team involved.
It was a much-needed win for Phoenix after they recorded their lowest-scoring total on Thursday. The Mercury had an 83-61 loss to Aces on Thursday.
All season long, Thomas has been the most effective player for the Mercury. She proved to be the most important piece of the roster on Friday, and the league recognized her for it. The WNBA sent a message on X about the six-time All-Star following their win.
"TRIPLE-DOUBLE QUEEN " the WNBA posted. "Alyssa Thomas grabs the board for her 17th career triple-double and 6th of the season! She ties her 2023 record (6) for the most triple-doubles by a player in a single season."
