WVU Baseball right-handed pitcher Grant Siegel announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal via Twitter on Friday.

The junior transferred in to the Mountaineers last season after a successful freshman campaign with Tulane, where he posted a 3.02 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 59.2 innings pitched.

While he earned the No. 3 spot in West Virginia’s starting rotation to begin the year, Siegel never managed to replicate his early success. He finished the season with a 5.65 ERA in 43 innings pitched, enduring an ugly sophomore slump.

Siegel fell out of WVU’s weekend lineup as conference play began, eventually getting playing time as a weekday starter—and then reliever—as the season wore on. With the Mountaineers losing top pitchers Ben Hampton and Blaine Traxel to the portal and graduation, Siegel could’ve had a chance to regain a big role, but instead enters the portal following their fall ball training.

The right-hander will have two years of eligibility remaining when he finds a new home.
