WWE Announces Major Change to SummerSlam Coming in 2026
Alan Poizner / USA TODAY NETWORK

One of the WWE’s biggest shows, SummerSlam, is going to be receiving a major change in the near future. Along with WrestleMania, Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble, SummerSlam has become one of the biggest events that the company puts on every year.

In 2026, it is going to look differently than it ever has before. That is because SummerSlam is moving to a two-night event. It is something that the WWE did with WrestleMania in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to great success.

In 2021, they hosted their first two-night WrestleMania in front of a live crowd and it doesn’t look like they will ever look back. When SummerSlam hits U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis in 2026, it will receive the same treatment for the first time.

“U.S. Bank Stadium is an absolutely world-class venue, situated in a city with rich wrestling history and an amazing fan base,” Chris Legentil, WWE executive vice president, talent relations and head of communications, said in a statement. “We’re excited to bring two nights of SummerSlam to Minneapolis in 2026.”

This year’s WrestleMania set records with WWE reporting a gate of 145,000 fans for two nights at Lincoln Financial Field in April. They are hoping that SummerSlam can have similar success in a few years.

In August, the 37th SummerSlam will be taking place in Cleveland, Ohio. There are some people who believe that Minneapolis getting the first two-night SummerSlam is a consolation prize after they missed out on WrestleMania in 2025.

Rumored to be the host city, Minneapolis lost out to Las Vegas for wrestling’s biggest event. But, a two-day SummerSlam in 2026 is a solid consolation prize, as that should draw incredible crowds as well from WWE and wrestling fans.

2026 SummerSlam will be the first premium live event that Minneapolis has hosted since 2019. That December, they had TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs.

“We are thrilled to welcome the WWE Universe to Minnesota for SummerSlam,” said Wendy Blackshaw, president and CEO of Minnesota Sports and Events. “We will make this summertime wrestling extravaganza accessible for fans of all ages. Through a variety of festivities and ancillary events in the Twin Cities and affordable tickets to the main events at U.S. Bank Stadium, this will be a SummerSlam for all.”
