With John Cena’s farewell tour heading into its final stretch, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has shared his thoughts on how the company should book the 17-time world champion’s last match.
Speaking on "Busted Open Radio," Bully argued that WWE faces a pivotal choice with two very different outcomes.
According to Bully, WWE must decide whether the promo wants to use Cena’s final bout to elevate a rising star within the company by defeating Cena in his last in-ring appearance, or simply send Cena off in storybook fashion as a WWE champion.
Cena, who is set to retire at the end of this year with a final match scheduled for Dec. 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Boston, has just 10 appearances left.

Among the already-announced matches on Cena's farewell tour are bouts against Logan Paul at Clash in Paris on Aug. 31 and Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza on Sept. 20.
Still, his opponent for the retirement match remains unannounced, with Cena recently saying he'd be "cool" with whoever rival WWE picks for him.
Bully Ray said his preference would be for Cena to lose to a younger wrestler like Bron Breakker, passing the torch to a new generation of superstars.
“That sets up Bron as a mega-star,” Bully said about that potential scenario.
On the other hand, if WWE decides to let Cena win, Bully sees only one fitting option for the 17-time champion: defeating Seth Rollins.
“John beats Seth (Rollins) for the championship on his last night, that’s a celebration,” Bully said.
Such a booking would make Cena an 18-time WWE World Champion, further extending his record, and put an end to the Cena-Rollins rivalry as they have faced off multiple times this year, including at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and Night of Champions.
Bully acknowledged that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would be the most high-profile opponent, but he called that scenario unlikely.
Cena himself discussed a potential final match against The Rock back in July, leaving the door open for such a scenario.
“Gosh, fantasy booking,” Cena said. “For those who are not inside baseball, fantasy booking is when you take an idea in your head and you’re like, man, it would be cool if… That’s what I’m hearing here. Man, it would be cool if John Cena could fight The Rock one more time. That, to me, would be cool.”
In Bully's eyes, however, WWE should focus on maximizing the magnitude of Cena’s farewell, whether through a historic title win or by setting up the company’s future.
“The idea is to book the biggest match they can for his farewell,” Bully said. “If closing the loop with The Rock isn’t happening, then ending Rollins’ World Heavyweight Championship run is the next best option.”
