The 2025 U.S. Open is just around the corner, scheduled to take place starting Thursday at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. With the world’s best golfers gearing up for one of the biggest events of the year, fans have their eyes on the final field list. This year, 156 players will tee it up, but it seems one familiar face might be missing — Sahith Theegala.
The rising PGA Tour star has been battling a neck injury for weeks now. After playing through pain at recent events, including a missed cut at the Memorial Tournament, Theegala has reached a breaking point.
Following advice from doctors, he was forced to withdraw from the RBC Canadian Open, stating, “Doctors have advised me to put the clubs away for a little while as I get treatment and rest for an injury I’ve been battling the last few weeks, so this one stings.”
While there has been no official announcement on his U.S. Open status, the 27-year-old is notably absent from the tournament’s official field list, as pointed out by Underdog Golf.
Theegala, who turned pro in 2020, has earned more than $19 million on the PGA Tour, a reflection of his impressive rise. But 2025 has been rough with just two top-25 finishes in 15 starts and nagging injuries slowing his momentum.

Though nothing is set in stone, signs point to Theegala missing the U.S. Open. For now, fans and fellow players are hoping he takes the time he needs to fully heal before making a strong return to the Tour.
