The U.S. Open did not go as planned for many athletes, but one PGA Tour golfer's injury is going to keep him from playing the final round. Despite the brutal difficulty of Oakmont, golfers have remained in the field throughout the tournament.

Oakmont has made stars like Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy frustrated throughout the week given the challenges the course presents. Heading into the final round, just four golfers remain under par.

Sam Burns leads the field at 4-under par with Adam Scott and J.J. Spaun attempting to chase him down as both golfers are just one stroke back on the leaderboard.

One golfer who will be unable to climb the leaderboard on Sunday is Corey Conners. According to TSN's Bob Weeks, Conners is withdrawing after sustaining a wrist injury during the tournament. The PGA Tour confirmed the news minutes later during the final round of the U.S. Open.

"Corey Conners has withdrawn from the US Open following a wrist injury he suffered first on Thursday and then aggravated yesterday," Weeks detailed in an X message on Sunday.

Conners has attempted to battle through the injury during the U.S. Open. News broke about Conners' withdraw just minutes before the golfer's scheduled tee time at 10:20 a.m. ET on Sunday.

Through the first three rounds, Conners sat at T39 with an 8-over par score. Conners has had a solid PGA Tour career since joining in 2018.

The golfer has earned $27.7 million, per the PGA Tour, which has been accumulating thanks to 10 top-10 finishes as well as two wins during his career. Conners is listed at No. 62 on the PGA Tour's career earnings rankings.

Prior to his withdraw, Conners received recognition from fellow PGA Tour golfer Michael Kim who praised his form and dedication to playing through the injury.

"Corey Conners deserves a full page on his own today," Kim said on X on Saturday. "The dude STRIPES it. Little draw, didn’t miss a shot on the front nine and he missed a short one on 3 so could have been even lower. Pretty easy 3 under. But then he plugged his bunker shot and while trying to hit out of it, hurt his wrist.

"He was obviously in some pain as soon as he hit it and I didn’t think he’d play more honestly. It took like 20 minutes for his physio to get to the green (don’t get me started on that terrible process ). He gutted it out but was (definitely) out of rhythm coming in."
