Aaron Wise withdraws from Masters to address mental health
Aaron Wise has confirmed he won't be playing in this year's Masters tournament and is instead temporarily stepping away from competitive golf.
"Regretfully, I am withdrawing from the Masters today," Wise explained in a post shared on his Instagram story, as mentioned by Patrick McDonald of CBS Sports and other outlets. "Golf is just as much a mental game as it is one of physical skill, and the mental piece of it has been a struggle for me recently. I don't take the significance of playing at Augusta lightly, but know that I need to take some time away to focus on my mental health so I can get back to competing at a level I am proud of."
As noted by Matt Cradock of Golf Monthly, Wise was voted PGA Tour Rookie of the Year for 2017-18, and he won the 2018 AT&T Byron Nelson. However, that remains the 26-year-old's lone PGA Tour title to date.
Per Alex Myers of Golf Digest, Wise made his first and only trip to play in the Masters in 2019. He made the cut that year and finished 17th.
More recently, though, Wise missed the cut in four of his past five stroke-play events and last made the cut for the Honda Classic in February. He then shot a disastrous first-round 80 at the Players Championship earlier this month.
As of Friday afternoon, Wise was No. 45 in the official PGA Tour rankings. It's unclear when he may return to the Tour.
"This hurts, but it's needed. See you all soon," Wise captioned his Instagram post.

WNBA legend Lisa Leslie had three words for Angel Reese
Now in her second WNBA season, Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is averaging a league‑leading 12.5 rebounds along with 13.8 points, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game. She recently returned from injury and immediately picked up where she left off, posting her 16th double‑double of the season (11 points, 11 rebounds) on Tuesday night even as her Chicago Sky fell, 91-68, to the Minnesota Lynx. Then, on Wednesday, Reese showcased her brand power on Instagram, posting a pregame photo dressed head‑to‑toe in Gucci with the caption, "Don’t worry about me… life is GUCCI @gucci #guccipartner." The image quickly lit up her feed and drew an immediate response from one of the game’s all‑time greats, WNBA legend Lisa Leslie, who commented, “Yessss it is❤️." Despite flashes of elite play, the Sky have struggled mightily, standing at just 7-17 and sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference. Their 76.7 points per game rank 12th in the WNBA, and opponents are torching them for 86.8 a night (12th in the league). With head coach Tyler Marsh searching for consistency, every bright spot has been a welcome reprieve for a franchise that won the title as recently as 2021. Front and center among Chicago’s bright spots is Reese. Off the court, Reese has quickly built a burgeoning portfolio of endorsement deals, including Reebok, Calvin Klein, Beats by Dre, Amazon and now Gucci, underscoring her status as one of the WNBA’s brightest personalities. On the other side, you have Leslie, whose voice carries more weight than arguably anybody in women’s basketball. A three‑time league MVP, two‑time WNBA champion and Finals MVP and eight‑time All‑Star, Leslie helped define the league’s early years with the Los Angeles Sparks, including driving home the first dunk in WNBA history in 2002. A Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer (class of 2015), she remains a global ambassador for the sport.
Brewers Reportedly Listening On Trade Offers For Veteran Starter
The Milwaukee Brewers aren't going to be categorized as sellers at this year's Trade Deadline, but they very well could trade from their big league roster. The starting rotation is an area of abundance for the Crew and it's always in high demand at this time of year. The Brewers have Nestor Cortes returning from the IL soon after missing the last four months almost with a flexor strain. Milwaukee's rotation is already filled with a mix of veterans (Freddy Peralta, Brandon Woodruff, Jose Quintana) and high performing rookies (Quinn Priester, Jacob Misiorowski), leaving little room to find a spot for Cortes. A trade of a veteran starter may be the easiest solution to the problem and according to Bob Nightengale, that's exactly what the Brewers are open to. In Nightengale's Sunday notes column, he writes that the Brewers are starting to listen to trade offers for veteran Nestor Cortes. Cortes has made just two starts this season, the first one being a disaster in New York and the second one being much better, going six shutout. Still, we haven't seen Cortes pitch in a big league game since early April. It would be tough for the Brewers to rely on him for the stretch run and move out a piece that has been healthy and reliable the whole time. Granted, the potential return for a rental starter like Cortes that has pitched in just two big league games this year isn't going to be anything earth shattering. But if Cortes sticks around, it's going to create a difficult logjam to manage in the Brewers rotation. Jose Quintana has struggled a little bit of late and is another veteran that could potentially be on the block if the Brewers end up keeping Cortes around. It seems difficult to envision a scenario in which both Quintana and Cortes are in the Brewers starting rotation on August 1st. Given the report that the Brewers are listening on Cortes, it appears that Milwaukee has their preference on who they would want to keep. The Trade Deadline is coming up on Thursday afternoon at 6 PM ET.
New suitor emerges for Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez
The Arizona Diamondbacks have plenty of suitors for third baseman Eugenio Suarez. A new team has reportedly entered the market for his services. Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Phillies have reached out regarding Suarez. While Lauber did not provide any indication as to whether or not those talks have gained traction, the Phillies are an intriguing suitor for the Diamondbacks' third baseman. The Phillies' interest may be a recent development. Jon Heyman of the New York Post speculated on Friday that the Phillies could emerge as a suitor in the wake of third baseman Alec Bohm landing on the injured list with a fractured left rib. Suarez is in the midst of what is arguably his best season thus far. He has produced a .249/.321/.587 batting line in 421 plate appearances entering Saturday with 36 homers and a major league-leading 87 RBI. Suarez would be more than just another powerful bat in the lineup. Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber and first baseman Bryce Harper are both left-handed hitters — adding Suarez would provide more balance in the batting order. He would also provide a counter against opposing managers bringing in a lefty reliever to face Schwarber and Harper. The biggest question would be how the Phillies would handle an eventual logjam on the roster. Bohm is expected to return from the IL in mid-August and would not have a clear path to regular at-bats if Suarez were acquired. Schwarber could theoretically return to left field to open up playing time at the DH spot, but his outfield defense is mediocre at best. However, as the Phillies are also looking to upgrade the outfield, where Max Kepler and Brandon Marsh have been disappointments, adding Suarez could solve several problems in one fell swoop.
Cincinnati Reds Pitch Their Way to a Sweep of Tampa Bay Rays
The Cincinnati Reds (56-50) completed the sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays (53-53) with a 2-1 win on Sunday. This win was all about the pitching for the Reds. BRADY SINGER SHOVES Brady Singer (8-8, 4.60 ERA) was ridiculously efficient on the afternoon. He pitched 7 1/3 innings and needed just 97 pitches to get there. His one and only run allowed was a solo home run off the bat of Taylor Walls. That was the final batter he faced. In his last start, Singer got rocked by the Washington Nationals and din’t even get our of the third inning. This is a very encouraging development as he looked a lot more like the April version of himself. PUT THE BALL IN PLAY When you don’t strike out, good things happen. Neither ball left the infield on both scoring plays for the Reds. Runs scored, nonetheless. Austin Hays got the Reds scoring started with a crazy bouncing ball that confounded Rays shortstop Taylor Walls. TJ Friedl kept his head down and never stopped running to score from second base. Then Gavin Lux added the second run on a soft ground ball fielded by Rays first baseman Jonathan Aranda. As Matt McLain had stolen his way to third in the previous pitch, Aranda had no prayer of getting the Reds second baseman at the plate and settled to get Lux at first. TIRED BULLPEN Emilio Pagan got the high-pressure save as he pitched for the third-straight day. He struck out Yandy Diaz and got a couple of fly outs to close out the one-run sweep of a win. This is the third time in 2025 that Pagan has pitched in three consecutive games. Tony Santillan bailed out the Reds in the eighth after Singer allowed the homer to Walls. This is the fourth time this year that Santillan has pitched three consecutive games, and the second set this month. DIFFICULT OUTS While the Reds did not fill up the scoreboard, or even the box score on Shane Baz (8-7, 4.61), they made him work. He threw 100 pitches to get through five innings. Reds hitters were putting together the kind of at-bats that you would be proud to see in October. The Reds now welcome the Los Angeles Dodgers to town on Monday. Nick Lodolo will start for the Reds while the Dodgers have not yet named a starter. First pitch will be at at 7:10 PM.
