Throughout 2025, there were a few rookies who managed to win the hearts and minds of the fans.  Some started the year strong by being on the Tour from the start, while others left their fates in the hands of luck.  Rookies like Aldrich Potgieter and Danny Walker have accomplished so much since January and will likely stick around.

Aldrich Potgieter, The Rookie Of The Year

All the way back in January, Aldrich Potgieter was making his first PGA Tour start as an official card-holding member.  He was already turning heads with his strong swings, getting close to record-breaking as a rookie.  Fans and players alike took to his positive attitude really well.  Pros had fun playing against him during tournaments.  Then, during the Rocket Classic, Potgieter earned his first PGA Tour win during his rookie year.  Although not unheard of, it is still a rare sight to see.  On top of that, he made his way into the FedEx Cup playoffs.  Such accomplishments in his first year earned him the Rookie Of The Year prize.

Danny Walker Finding Luck In Unlikely Places

During the first few months of 2025, Danny Walker was still trying to find his footing in the Tour.  Like Potgieter, Walker earned his Tour Card during the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour.  He gained some attention during the first few tournaments he attended, but then things changed during the Players Championship.  Originally, Jason Day was supposed to play during the tournament.  However, he had to withdraw due to illness.  Danny Walker was signed up as an alternate player, without a guarantee that he would be playing.  He then received a phone call in the bathroom of all places, giving him the good news.  From there, he teed up and began winning over the crowd that was confused at first by his appearance, still expecting Day.

Luke Clanton, Earning His Tour Card Mid-Season

The PGA Tour offers a few programs for amateurs to go pro.  One such program is the PGA Tour U, a path to getting a Tour Card for golfers going through college.  Clanton is notable because he is only the second player to earn his Tour Card through the program.  Back in March, he managed to gather enough points to secure a card during the Cognizant Classic.  He waited until the summer to start using that card, and he brought a positive attitude that is always welcomed in the sport.  He is also still star-struck, playing alongside the pros and legends he looked up to growing up.

The 2025 Rookies

For 2025, the newcomers to the PGA were such a welcome presence.  They brought positivity and overall good vibes.  The players enjoyed playing with them, and the fans loved seeing them on the field.  Already, one rookie has made some great accomplishments, and the others are more than eager for what is to come next.  Next season’s run of rookies are already lining up and have snatched up whatever spaces they could for next year.  If they are anything like this year’s run, next year will be enjoyable for the fans and players alike.
