AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am final round postponed due to weather

It’s the third time in the last six years that the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am will be completed on a Monday. The event previously wrapped up on a Monday in 2019 and 2023. Monday calls for more showers in Pebble Beach, California, leaving PGA Tour Chief Referee Gary Young with a big decision to make.

“Our regulations say we need to make every effort to play 72 holes, which includes playing on Monday,” Young said, via USA Today. “We would not start play on Monday if we knew we couldn’t finish the round on Monday. So, the drop-dead time on that would mean we would have to start play on Monday by 10:15 a.m. at the latest in order to complete play.”

Monday play beats the alternative of calling the event after 54 holes, something the PGA Tour has seldom done. The last PGA Tour event to finish after 54 holes was the Zurich Classic in 2016. Young added there’s a scenario where play extends into Tuesday.

“Our regulation states that we can’t start play on Monday without knowing that we could finish play on Monday,” Young said. “If we did that and then for some reason weather rolled in on us that caused us to delay again, if more than half the field has finished play, then we would extend play into Tuesday. But we would need more than half of them to have completed their round on Monday.”

Wyndham Clark is the leader in the clubhouse, sitting at 17-under par. Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, shot up the leaderboard Saturday after putting together a round of 12-under 60. Clark came just short of becoming the 13th player to card a sub-60 round on the PGA Tour.

“I didn’t even visualize a day this good. It was honestly surreal,” Clark said after his round, via CBS Sports. “When you get out in the day and start out as good as I did, you kind of get in the zone and then you get to the back nine and that’s when you start thinking about 59. I’m honestly really proud with how I played. To shoot a score like I did on this golf course was pretty special.”
