The PGA Tour is in Japan this week for the Baycurrent Classic, previously called the Zozo Championship.
Xander Schauffele and Hideki Matsuyama are two of the standout names set to tee off at this year’s event.
Adam Scott will also be there, debuting a new set of irons and a fresh putter.
Yokohama Country Club is a fantastic venue, one that should provide a proper test over four rounds.
A number of players are searching for form, including Schauffele, Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa, but another PGA Tour star has been forced to withdraw from the event.
Tony Finau has pulled out of the Baycurrent Classic this week, with no reason given for his absence.
He is hoping to get his game back on track before the 2026 season begins, especially after a tough 2025 campaign where he struggled, particularly with his putting.
Stepping away from this event is hardly how he would have wanted to kick things off as he looks to turn things around.
The last time the Utah native lifted a trophy was back in April 2023.
Finau has picked up six PGA Tour titles over his career and has spent plenty of time inside the world’s top 10.
But it has been a tough stretch over the past year, with little success. Hopefully, whatever kept him out of Japan is not a long-term issue and he can get back on course soon.
Finau’s replacement at Yokohama Country Club has already been confirmed. Sam Ryder will be stepping in for the six-time PGA Tour winner this week.
The 35-year-old Ryder has participated in 224 PGA Tour events but has yet to secure a victory.
Throughout his career, he has made 126 cuts and has finished in the top 10 on 20 occasions.
This could be a big opportunity for Ryder to make something happen, especially as he looks to finally break through and get that first win under his belt.
