It’s more than halfway through the 2025 schedule, and only three of the top six in the Ryder Cup rankings have won a tournament on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Scottie Scheffler has two wins, Justin Thomas and Russell Henley have won once, Thomas at the RBC Heritage, and Henley won the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Technically, DeChambeau has a win in 2025, but it’s on LIV. While not discounted, it’s just not a PGA Tour win.
Sitting at 15th on the list is Ben Griffin started the season T45th when he entered the Sony Open at the beginning of the season.
A winner of two tournaments, the Zurich Classic, a team event, and the Charles Schwab last week, Griffin joins World No. 1 Scheffler as the only two-time American winner on Tour this season.
This begs the question: Should he be penciled into the U.S. Ryder Cup Team at Bethpage Black in September now because of his multiple victories?
At 29 years old, Griffin has had his ups and downs in professional golf. For a brief stint in the spring and summer of 2021, he was a loan officer for a mortgage company.
But the native North Carolinian returned to professional golf and kept his card in 2023 and 2024, without a victory.
Griffin's winless streak ended in 2025, and now in the upper echelons of the PGA Tour.
No longer struggling to find the winner’s circle, the win at Colonial put Griffin in a unique place. With two victories, he is now considered a threat when he tees it up on Thursdays.
“I don't want to say silence the haters, but there's definitely some hate comments I got last night, and I used that as fuel today to get an individual win,” Griffin said of comments he received on social media.
Griffin describes his progression through the professional ranks as walking on stepping stones. He believes he can compete with anyone and beat anyone at any time.
“It's really cool to get that monkey off the back, going back a few weeks ago,” Griffin said on Sunday at Colonial. “And I feel like now that I've done it a couple of times, I just feel super confident in my ability down the stretch.”
U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley will have some difficult decisions, but that is months away.
Will Griffin be part of those deliberations? That’s anyone’s guess, but with two wins and the confidence that comes with those victories, it is hard to believe he is not firmly in the conversation.
