Ben Griffin has come up short against Scottie Scheffler once again, this time at the Procore Championship in Napa.

It is the second time this year he has had to settle for second behind the world number one.

In 2025, Griffin could become a four-time PGA Tour winner. However, Scheffler outplayed the North Carolina native at The Memorial in June, and the two golfers were once again the primary contenders at the Procore Championship in Napa this past week.

That time, one late birdie chance for Griffin did not drop, and it handed Scheffler his sixth title of a remarkable year.

After the tournament, it was clear that Griffin felt he had given everything he could. Stopping a player like Scheffler on form is never easy, and Sunday was another example of that.

The two players shared a quick conversation afterward, with Griffin recognising just how relentless the Dallas native had been down the stretch.

“Good playing, dude,” Griffin said after they finished.

Scheffler replied: “Good job, brother. Keep up the good work.”

And then Griffin added: “Way to fight. You make everything.”

Scottie Scheffler sends warning shot ahead of the Ryder Cup

Griffin will be joining Scheffler as a teammate soon, with the Ryder Cup just around the corner. He is set to make his debut at Bethpage after being selected by Keegan Bradley.

And his fiancée Dana captured exactly how every member of Team USA will be feeling about having the world number one on their side in New York.

She said to Scheffler: “I’m so happy we don’t have to play against you in a few weeks.”

Scheffler’s win came at a time when members of Team Europe were already in the States, preparing for their own scouting trip at Bethpage.

The idea that he might ease up following the FedEx Cup playoffs now seems unlikely. The 29-year-old has made it clear he is still locked in.
