Brooks Koepka Reveals LIV Golf Disappointment Before Backtracking

As more time passes, golf fans continuously wonder whether the PGA Tour and LIV Golf will ever come to a deal. Since the framework agreement took place in June 2023, it was believed a merger was on the horizon.

Yet, here we are more than 18 months later.

But as the PGA Tour continues to thrive, LIV Golf continues to struggle to garner attention. That is something LIV star Brooks Koepka addressed during an interview with Joe Pompliano, per NUCLR Golf.

During the interview, Koepka was very candid with his feelings about the progress of LIV Golf.

“Look we’re 4 years in, it’s just getting its feet wet and figuring out what direction they want it to go," Koepka said.

"Obviously there’s been a lot of change and hires of people within LIV and now having Scott [O'Neil]… I think Scott’s a great guy and he can lead LIV to where it needs to be and where I think it should be. Because we are behind. To be quite fair. Behind where we should be. From bringing sponsors in to hitting the international market and the US market."

O'Neil recently replaced Greg Norman as the league's CEO. Norman remains a part of the organization, but his well-known bitterness toward the PGA Tour likely hindered negotiations.

The five-time major winner is spot on, though.

LIV has thus far been unable to land major sponsorship deals and the television ratings are appalling. Even the recent deal with FOX Sports is yet to fix that. The 34-year-old pro golfer used that as a segue to backtrack his way out of the disappointment he had just expressed.

“The new TV deal definitely helps, but we need to take that and expand it and grow it. We’re not on Fox every time we play. So we’ve still got room to grow but we’ve got the right people in charge now and I’m excited to see where it goes.”

Koepka's contract with LIV Golf expires at the end of the 2026 season. It has been rumored that he is itching to get back onto the PGA Tour. Golf legend Fred Couples went so far as to confirm those rumors via a discussion they had together.

Nevertheless, the two-time U.S. Open champion appears to remain loyal.

Brooks Koepka is one of the biggest defectors from the PGA Tour amid the emergence of LIV Golf. He is also one of the most accomplished, having won three PGA Championships to go along with the aforementioned U.S. Open titles.
